My Sheep Hear My Voice

By Stewart Topping …

Lets look at some scriptures.  Remember to check me out.  This verse is very clear; my sheep are believers and Jesus is saying I know them and they follow me. Well, because we have the Holy Spirit within us we have the truth, the word, the living God and the power of his resurrection to help and guide us each and every day of our lives.

John 10:27 (KJV) 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me

We have studied Salvation, Grace, Obedience, Forgiveness and Works; along with why we should study the word (Bible).  Why this week do we study hearing;  it is the relationship we have with God though Jesus in Prayer.  Prayer is just talking with God about our everyday lives; our family, our Job, our health and every thing we can think of that affects our lives.  Look at this verse, remember that we didn’t bring anything into the world and we will take nothing out of it.  We need to always be content with what we have at any time.

1 Timothy 6:6-8 (KJV) 6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

This verse brings something very important to mind;  the ravens are taken care of, God feeds them and how much more will he take care of us.  This is part of relationship that we have with Him; that is trusting Him with everything that we have and need.

Luke 12:24-26 (KJV) 24 Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls? 25 And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?

This next verse sums up everything in our study; be careful for nothing.  Sometimes we have so much worry about everyday life.  Here is where prayer comes in; if you pray then you believe he exists.  If we make our request known to God we then receive thepeace of God.  It all started when we accepted God as our Saviour, knowing that He died, was buried and the rose from the grave by the power of God.

Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV) 6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

What is life all about; yes it’s family, yes it getting married, but it is knowing that there is a God and that He loves us and that he will take care of us.

Don’t forget to thank Him for what you have.  Today it may not be enough but tomorrow we trust God will supply all our needs.

Remember that this verse is a must to believe:

Hebrews 11: 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

You must believe that God exists in order to trust God today and to leave the worrying to Him, He can handle it we can’t!

Have a great day in Jesus.

Was this letter written to you?

By Stewart Topping …

Have you ever thought that God might have different plans for the Human race over the last 6000 years? Let me give you an example. I don’t think we will offer a sacrifice in the temple today. That was a time for the Children of Israel to learn who God was and what was expected of them. To fulfill the prophecy of Jesus, their messiah.  Paul said the Law was a schoolmaster for us.

Galatians 3:24 (KJV) 24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.Have you ever wondered if God has written parts of the Bible for different people?  Well if we look at whose address is given at the beginning of each letter or who is the audience it is written to, it would help us to rightly divide the word and it would give us a better understanding of the Bible. (2 Tim 2:15)We may believe something that was written for someone else.  If the letter is addressed to the Jewish people under the Law; would we pay any attention to it since we are not under the Law?The Apostle Paul says to the Gentiles;

Romans 11:13 (KJV)  I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office: Now here we find that Paul was talking to the Gentiles, the heathens, not the Children of Israel.

The Apostle James says to the Nation of Israel; James 1:1 (KJV) James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.

So in these two cases we found that James was addressing his letter to the Children of Israel, which were the twelve tribes of Israel. (These are the sons of Israel; Jacobs name was changed to Israel by God).  Now here is another interesting verse; see what Paul is saying;

Galatians 2:7 (KJV) 7 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the Uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter.

The Children of Israel are called the circumcision and the  heathen which are the Gentiles are called the uncircumcised.  Here he is dividing us into two groups of people, one for a ministry for Peter and the Twelve and the other group a ministry for Paul.We could go on and on and find that God has deal with different groups since Noah.  Look at some of the things that God revealed over time.  He called Noah and then He revealed the flood to him and the need to build the ark.  He called Abraham to begin a journey to Canaan and to start a new Nation.  He called Moses to lead the Children of Israel out of Egypt. Then we see that even before Paul revealed the Death, Burial and Resurrection to the Gentiles in 1Cor. 15:1-4.Jesus even told the Disciples but they did not understand it.

Read the following verse. Mark 9:30-32 (KJV) 30 And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it. 31 For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day. 32 But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him.Why would Jesus tell them something that they did not understand?

Could it be to emphasis a point in God’s time table, was this for us to understand the secret hid in God?  Paul says the revelation of the mystery that he would be preaching would be part of his Gospel.  The Gospel is the Good news of the Body of Christ and the age of Grace.  The twelve were told before His death but didn’t know it was in the Old Testament in Isaiah Chapter 53.  They might have read it but didn’t understand it.  The same is true today; only those that God want to understand will. Today the non believer cannot understand the things of God.Should we do what the Christian of Israel was told in the Old Testament like keeping the sin offering or the holidays, maybe the Sabbath and the Sabbatical year?  All are written in the scripture but not to the same audience. Let’s look at two verses concerning works, one by the Apostle Paul and the other by one of the twelve, James.

The Apostle Paul says to the Gentiles; Galatians 2:16 (KJV) 16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

The Apostle James says to the Nation of Israel; James 2:24 (KJV) 24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

Why the difference?  One was under the Law and the other under grace.  Here is a great example of the two different messages. Jews had to follow the Law, which were works, to be justified; today after the death of Jesus we are to follow grace not works. Both must believe what God has written to each group.  One is written to a group of people before the cross, the other after the cross. God’s only purpose is to create fellowship for Himself, with people that believe in him and want to please him.  If we can see that God is in control and has a message for us, we can trust Him more each day as we study and rightly divide the word of God.What is the revelation of the Mystery which was kept secret since the world began?

It must have been important if it was only revealed to Paul after Christ died on the cross. Remember it was not revealed to Israel or to the twelve Apostles. Why God would keep something secret is more than a coincidence; even when Jesus told the Disciples it was not the correct time for them to understand.

Romans 16:25 (KJV) 25 now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,God would over time reveal what He was going to do when He wanted to do it.  If He revealed it before the time it would affect the plan that was in effect.  What is the Mystery?  If satan knew what was going to happen when Jesus died on the cross he would have prevented it from taken place.

Colossians 1:26-28 (KJV) 26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: 27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: 28 Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.

We are the Saints, the body of Christ, not the Nation of Israel. Remember Paul is the Apostle called to the Gentiles, and we are the Gentiles.  Remember when you are reading scripture to see who God is speaking to.  Is it to those under the Law or thought under grace.

We can understand the Bible

By Stewart Topping …

What is exciting is that God has a plan for each of us and has placed the information in the Bible for us to read and understand.  Why don’t we know more?  Why don’t we know what we believe? You will see in the following survey by the Christian Post; they don’t know the truth about salvation if, 72 percent, think that there are many ways to eternal Life.

Maybe we are too well off.  Maybe there are too many things that take up our time, TV, Movies, Shopping and Places to Travel.

The Nation of Israel always had a problem with their relationship with God when they had wealth and prosperity. One of the biggest problems we face is not spending enough time reading the Bible.  It seems that we allow others to give us their understanding.

What is that old saying. ” If you don’t use it, you will lose it”.  Since we don’t spend the time to understand we are left in the hands of others to teach us.  Some may not be teachers.  Do these people actually study or do they get there material from prepared sermons. We need people who hear from God.  We then need to prove what we hear.

Today Christians don’t want to spent the time to study to find the truth.  Reading is not studying. We might get a warm fussy feeling, but do we understand what we read.  We can change things by setting aside time each day to study.  We can change the next survey from a negative one to a positive one.  The lack of understanding is why so many Christians think there are many ways to be saved. Read this survey.

Here is a survey by the Christianity Post:

Many Americans Say Christianity is Not the Only Way to Eternal Life

Most American Christians believe many religions can lead to eternal life and among them, the vast majority says you don’t even have to be Christian to go to heaven, a new survey shows. Sixty-five percent of all Christians say there are multiple paths to eternal life, ultimately rejecting the exclusivity of Christ teaching, according to the latest survey conducted by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life.

Even among white evangelical Protestants, 72 percent of those who say many religions can lead to eternal life name at least one non-Christian religion, such as Judaism or Islam or no religion at all, that can lead to salvation.  Dr. R. Albert Mohler, Jr., President of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary called the survey results “a theological crisis for American evangelicals,” according to USA Today.

Why is this, because believers do not want to study?  We can understand because we have the Holy Spirit, the same power that raised Jesus from the Dead.  We need to trust Jesus in order to understand the words he wrote through people who were inspired by the Holy Spirit.

Look at this verse and consider it as a promise to you and me.

John 14:25-26 (GW) 25 “I have told you this while I’m still with you. 26 However, the helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything. He will remind you of everything that I have ever told you.

By Stewart Topping …

Have you ever wondered what the Bible says about be double minded and why it is important? You may ask what does it have to with anything.  It makes a difference on how strong your relationship with God is and if you believe that satan is part of the problem.  You can not under estimate him.  He can mess up your mind and create doubt in God and the power of God. Psalms 119:113 (NKJV) 113 I hate the double-minded, But I love your law.

When David wrote this Psalm he was making a comparison with double-minded and the Law. The Law was given to Moses after he led the children of Israel out of Egypt. The law was for governing the people who will be called the nation of Israel and to teach them of the coming Messiah . The Israelite s were to follow the law to the letter  Why the comparison? If you follow the law completely then you would be single minded.

So when you are double minded you are not following the law. Christian’s saved by Grace don’t live by the law; but we do live by the spirit. If you are led by the spirit then we are not under the law.(Gal 5:18)  So you don’t have to be concerned about the law.  We should be concerned with our relationship with God and if we are singled minded.

Lets look at another verse of scripture. James 4:7-8 (NKJV) 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Submitting to God in important in our relationship with God; when we believe it produces Faith and then it will give us authority over satan.  When you believe you will exercise your faith and satan will flee from you; he will stop talking to you.

Remember he is the power of the air.  So if we tell him to stop messing with our mind, get lost; he will have to flee from us.  Always remember that satan can mess with our mind since he is the Prince of the power of the air.

He talked to Adam and Eve and look what happened with them. We are affected by things we hear;  radio, cell phone, computer, TV, other people and Satan is the prince of the power of the air.Ephesians 2:1-2 (KJV)1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

A double-minded person is someone who doubts God and His promises because he hears something else that confuses them. They may ask God for help, but are unsure if God will come through for them or not. He does not realize that his own doubts about God hinder the fulfillment of his prayers. “That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord!” (Quote from an article written by Rob Chaffart)

James 1:7-8 (NKJV)7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

If you were to drive 100 miles to pick up something, as you approach the pickup place would you say “I wonder if it is open” or “I hope it is open”.  You would have planned in advance. You would have to be double minded to have doubt.  The same is true of God; when you know him then you expect answer to prayer, direction in your life, health and family.  You wouldn’t say I hope he will hear my prayer. When you are single minded there is a clear understanding of who you are and a clear understanding that God is part of your life.  When you are single minded, you will receive from God.

Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV) 6 be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Jesus will keep you heart and mind; you must stay single focused, be positive and have a clear direction.  It is very important to be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Start with expecting God to answer prayer.

Romans 12:2 (KJV) 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Satan wants you to be conformed to the world, because is the prince of this world.  Jesus defeated him on the cross, being buried and being raised from the dead by the power of God. It’s his power we want in our lives not the power of satan.

Check out this great book … “Satan” by Lewis Sperry Chafer

Here is the Introduction from the book;

The world has been willing to comply with the wishes and projects of Satan to the extent of ceasing to believe that he really exists; this Unbelief being most advantageous to his present undertakings. Yet the Opinions of men have never changed the facts of revelation, and, According to Scripture, Satan exists; still possessed with great power And influence over the affairs of men–a power and influence to be Increasingly dreaded as this present age advances.

The teachings of Scripture on this important subject are but little Understood by Christians and seem to be entirely outside the thought of the world. It is, therefore, to be expected that any attempt to present this truth will seem, to many, mere folly and fiction.

The name Satan has by no means been lost. It has, however, been associated with a most unscriptural fancy. Without reference to revelation, the world has imagined a grotesque being, fitted withstrange trappings, who has been made the central character in theatrical performances; and by this relation to the unreality of the theatre, the real character of Satan has come to be only one of the myths of a bygone age. Scripture reveals a detailed description of the person and career of Satan; beginning with his creation; his original condition; his fall, and on to his kingdom with all its developments, and his final defeat and banishment.

It presents a personage so mighty and so prominent in the world to-day that the Christian heart would fail, were it not for faith in the One who has triumphed over all principalities and powers. You can read a copy by going to the following; Satan His Motives and Methods by Lewis Sperry Chafer here is the link
