God’s plan of Redemption Part 5 “sealed by the Holy Spirit”

by Stewart Topping

Redemption is a term used in the Bible to refer to the special intervention of God for the salvation of mankind. This use of the word deals with the work of Jesus Christ on the cross in which He paid the price to purchase human beings and set them free from their slavery to sin. On account of Christ’s substitutionary atonement, He is called the redeemer.

Remember, when you make peace with God; it is because you accepted Jesus as your savior and that you believed that Jesus died on the cross for your sins; that He was buried and then He rose from the grave by the power of God.  All we have to do is believe; but sometimes we think we know better and try to work for our salvation. What makes Christianity different than other religions is that our savior rose from the dead.  No other religion has a savior that has risen from the dead.  Their religion has a god that wants us to do good works.

Now we are forgiven by God and covered with His righteousness.  God now sees us as if we had not sinned. (Justified)  Well, what should our next step be in this new relationship with God?  The next step should be to receive the peace of God which means; believing, trusting, and listening to God through our relationship with God.

Here is the confidence you should know that you are saved until you are redeemed.  If you have the Holy Spirit living in you to help you live the right type of life.  We have to realize that we been sealed with the Holy Spirit after we trusted, heard the word of truth and believed.  Always remember the following verse.

Ephesians 1:13-14 (KJV) 13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

According to Webster’s Dictionary, the word seal means “to confirm, authenticate or guarantee – to pledge.”  So God has pledged that you are forgiven, covered with His righteousness and are starting a new life with the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.

The expression earnest is considered a down payment on something that needs to be purchased.  In this case it is something that Jesus paid for with his death; our salvation is a promise from God that if we believe his word, that is the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, we will go to heaven.  Just believe it!  (JBI)

Ephesians 4:30 (KJV) and grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

God has not left us without the ability to have a successful life. Remember the first Adam lost that spiritual relationship with God and went into bondage with satan.   The second Adam (Jesus) has paid (earnest) with His life to buy us back from that bondage.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (KJV) 19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

Who is the Holy Spirit?   It is the power within you to live a holy life, the ability to understand Gods word and to learn the truth.  Look at the following verse; (2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needed not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth”) (KJV)

1 John 2:27 (KJV) 27 But the anointing (Holy Spirit)  which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

Lets sum up what we have been talking about

We accept Jesus, we receive the Holy Spirit and it is sealed in us.  The price paid is to release us from bondage with the earnest or down payment required to set us free.  It is a free gift from God; Eph 2:8-9.  All we have to do is believe, not assume, not hope, but know it.

Start believing God for all things.  But it is important to read and study to know what to believe.  God has given you the Holy Spirit to help you.
Remember always; “Just Believe It” (JBI)
