Prayer … is it important?

By Stewart Topping

Let’s look at a popular verse in scripture. Seem like it’s very clear what is said.  It says that we should pray for everything along with thanksgiving.

Philippians 4:6 (KJV) 6 be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

What is thanksgiving?  Why would Paul say that prayer is important with thanksgiving?  Could it be attitude; that we must have a positive attitude to even begin with prayer?

  • We must believe that God is real.
  • We must believe that God loves us.
  • We must believe he hears us.
  • We must believe he wants to help us.
  • We must pray in faith.
  • We must believe that he is a rewarder of them that seek him.

Hebrews 11:6 (KJV) 6 but without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

John wrote about prospering and also Health; then it must be possible to pray for health and material things.  John prayed for others to prosper.

3 John 1:2 (NKJV) 2 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.
